Creative expression through the therapeutic nature of clay
Come explore the magical medium of clay. All the techniques of pinch, coil, slab, and wheel work will be demonstrated and explored with all campers.
This year we will focus on what it means to be mindful while creating. Campers may be asked to work silently, to really feel the clay and think about what they want to say with the piece of art they working on. We will take moments to breathe deeply and imagine. Students may also be asked to participate in an imagination journey to discover a possible Spirt animal.
We will spend three days actually making pottery pieces and then the last day of camp will be dedicated to firing our pottery, Raku, pit firing, and wood fire.
Campers can also expect a morning break with a fresh popped popcorn snack. For lunch we walk to Salmon Bay park for a picnic and fresh air run around time.
We will also end the week enjoying handmade pizzas baked in the wood fired pizza oven!
When signing your child up for this camp please keep in mind this is not day care. This is a chance to work with a professional potter and learn real technique and firing processes. Campers will be asked to help with firing the pieces. Smoke and flames are to be expected. Students must be able to follow instructions, and work on projects for at least 4 hours per day. If your child is not capable of these requirements please consider other camps.
Please plan to pick up finished pieces the fallowing Friday a week after camp. For example Camp I can pick up their finished pieces July 19th . Camp II can pick up their pieces July 26th. It is very important to make arrangements to pick up all pottery as our storage is limited and pieces will not be saved into the fall.
